French Directoire bed frame with original paint

This bed frame is a rare find because of the extraordinary depth of colour and texture to the old layers of paint. This gives it the feel of a piece of art, rather than furniture. It has a rich patina of blues, greys and teal.

There is a floral carving at the top of the headboard and footboard, turned columns to either side and round finials at each corner.

The bedframe comprises headboard, footboard and the two side rails, but no base/slats, which could easily be supplied by a joiner.

It is recommended that this is put together by an experienced joiner, as some reinforcement might be required to ensure that the frame is sufficiently robust.

It would also be possible to customise this piece to re-purpose it as two headboards for single beds.
