Eastern European marriage chest
£550 - Now Sold
This 19th century hand-painted dowry chest is a beautiful example of folk art from Eastern Europe, probably Hungary. The front of the chest is decorated with three sprays of flowers on dark green and burgundy coloured panels, with a heart-shaped escutcheon on the centre panel (no key). The rest of the chest is an attractive faded blue colour. The chest is in good condition, although there has been some deterioration to the timber in the feet due to the age of the piece.
