18th century oak sword chest
£595
A very old, well-weathered six plank sword chest or coffer constructed from thick oak, which has a rich, aged patina
The coffer has a hinged top and mouldings applied to the front. The initials ‘I’ and ‘C’ are visible on the front. It also retains the original asymmetric lock plate (although strap and key are missing) and a lidded candle box inside. There is considerable age-related wear and tear to this piece, as would be expected, given its age, and signs of historic woodworm. But all our items are treated for woodwork as a matter of course.
The extent of the wear and tear makes this an extraordinarily characterful piece, as well as a practical one, providing useful storage space.
