Harding Howell & Co trunk on stand
£595
A very unusual trunk on a stand from the haberdashery department at Harding Howell & Co, the very first department store (allegedly!). The shop opened in 1796 and closed in 1820. In the original paint finish, this is a rich burgundy colour, with darker legs to the stand, and has painted inscriptions on the top (‘Harding Howell & Co Haberdashery’) and the front (’89 Pall Mall, St. James, London’) of the trunk. A fascinating and characterful piece, which also offers useful storage space inside the trunk.
